Summary: Leon I earned my reputation among magicians for a reason: one wrong move and you’re dead. Killer, they called me, and killing is what I’m best at. Except her. The one I was supposed to take, the one I should have killed – I didn’t. The cult that once controlled me wants her, and I’m not about to lose my new toy to them.

Rae I’ve always believed in the supernatural. Hunting for ghosts is my passion, but summoning a demon was never part of the plan. Monsters are roaming the woods, and something ancient – something evil – is waking up and calling my name. I don’t know who I can trust, or how deep this darkness goes. All I know is my one shot at survival is the demon stalking me, and he doesn’t just want my body – he wants my soul.

Her Soul to Take is book 1 in the Souls Trilogy. Each book within the Souls Trilogy is interconnected, following a different couple through a similar timeline in the fictional world of Abelaum.

Review: This story follows a young woman who is a supernatural hunter and there’s a demon obsessed with her. This was a great, dark paranormal romance that had a wonderful story. As this book is recently published, you would expect the writing style to be of the current time but it feels like an early 2010s book. Think of Hush Hush and House of Night. LaRoux is a great writer and I enjoyed the complex world they created. There were many conflicts in the story that made the story entertaining and I was here for all those cute romance scenes. The pacing was fast and I read this thick book pretty fast. This story follows both Leon and Rae.

Leon is a demon who is summoned on earth on a mission but he becomes obsessed with Rae. I liked his character but I wish we got to know more about him. I felt his story could have been more detailed like Rae. Rae is a ghost hunter who moves her college and meets Leon. I have to say that I kind of found her annoying at times but I liked how chaotic it would be to keep the story entertaining. I do wish there was more character development in her. There were many side characters in this book and I loved the villains in this story. The romance is enemies to lovers and he falls first which is very steamy. The chemistry is very well built.

The ending was well done but you can tell who the next story will be about which I’m so excited for. This was a fun story but I do wish the characters had more development though the world was well done. I recommend checking this book out especially if you want to read a good paranormal romance book.
